talk · intermediate · 2016–2022 on HN
A DEF CON 23 talk on researching whether a commercial quadcopter could be forced to land by interfering with its GPS signal, inspired by a neighbor's kid's drone. It covers the research and the legal and technical issues encountered.
HN brings it up in drone threads as a favorite tech talk and as evidence of how weak consumer drone security is.

I'm a fan of "Knocking my neighbors kids cruddy drone offline" by Robinson and Mithcell from DEFCON 23. [0] ▶ this video
Many hobbyist drones are flying Linux computers [1], so it's not a stretch that an autonomous drone could be constructed. [1] ▶ this video
These vague "The Chinese are up to something but we cannot reveal what" isn't really helpful, particularly given the current trade tensions This is exacerbated by the very poor levels of security in these devices in general: DEF CON 23 - Robinson and Mitchell - Knocking my neighbors kids cruddy drone offline ▶ this video However, to put things into perspective, purpose built security cameras -- even expensive ones from well reputed industry brands -- have had similar very poor levels of very poor security for many years. link It's not really a problem of drones. It's a problem with the poor levels of security in consumer devices in general. It's "as if" the situation has been engineered to let bad actors do lots of spying.
As always it depends. There was defcon talk[1] about messing with drones and one part of speekers research involved jamming gps signal. [1] ▶ this video
