How Google is building a browser monopoly
TechAltarCited 3× on HN, 2019–2023
commentary · general · 2019–2023 on HN
TechAltar's eight-minute video arguing that Chrome is becoming the new Internet Explorer as Google leverages its browser position. It covers anti-competitive behavior toward other browsers like Firefox and Edge and the role of Chromium.
HN commenters cite it as a good example of how Google treats browsers that are not Chrome and of the browser-monopoly concern.

While being 3 years old, this video [1] is a good example of some of the behavior Google uses when they find out you're not using Chrome. [1]: ▶ this video
No, people don't choose them because they like Chrome, people choose them because Google makes sure that their services don't work well in other browsers! Just to point out one of the many such complaints ▶ this video
Google is trying to kill the competition by purposely introducing weird bugs here and there, taking advantage of the fact that they own the most visited sites on the web. They've been doing it for a while now, Tech Altar even had a video about it the other day: ▶ this video Along with the censorship and privacy issues, I guess it's time for them to change their payoff, "don't be evil".
