A 3-minute CGI animated sci-fi short by Dima Fedotov. An automated war system keeps a lone bomber attacking a long-dead city after humanity has been wiped out, until life finds a way to survive.
Cited as a vivid illustration of autonomous weapons and machines that keep running after their creators are gone.

I'm not sure how contributory to the discussion this is, but I love watching this short every couple years: ▶ this video (I love it in the sense that I'd love a dystopian scifi movie, but not a reality like this)
identify a target decide to attack the target implement the attack determine the result of the attack If humans are required for the decision, then humans have an inherent hook to prevent more attacks. Otherwise you run into scenarios like ▶ this video where humans are incapacitated and AI just continue on like nothing has happened. It makes the failure modes more sane. It's not a catch-all but a good agreeable step to take.
> What puzzles me is that as of yet, there doesn't seem to be any talk of using "AI" (ie Neural Net stuff) for planning and strategy, which seems like a MUCH more powerful application than this stuff. It'll probably be so effective, it'll still be fighting long after all of humanity has destroyed itself and left an irradiated environment. Here are two science fiction short videos of an artist depicting such a future: "LAST DAY OF WAR" - by Dima Fedotov | TheCGBros - link "Fortress/Крепость" - by Dima Fedotof | TheCGBros - ▶ this video (edit: typofix)
For the most part, at least we don't have to worry about forgotten, rogue IoT devices. The overriding mission has been to connect it to shitty online services. Watch these companies go out of business or deprecate APIs. This is very dramatic, but imagine something like this: ▶ this video
