The Glass Age, Part 1: Flexible, Bendable Glass

demo · general · 2019–2023 on HN
A Corning-sponsored video in which Adam Savage and Jamie Hyneman introduce flexible, bendable glass. It covers the history of glass innovation with demonstrations of bendable optical fiber and ultra-thin glass.
Pointed to for nice demonstrations of bendable glass, though commenters note it feels like an infomercial.

In the "yet another PRD video" ... though one of the earlier ones... The Mythbusters did a pair of videos for Corning eight years ago (and yes, they have the feel of infomercials - it isn't subtle at all... they're still neat): The Glass Age, Part 1: Flexible, Bendable Glass - ▶ this video The Glass Age, Part 2: Strong, Durable Glass - link
Would this block the whole video about the Glass Age[0] by the MythBusters since the whole thing was sponsored? :) [0] ▶ this video
There’s no reason it can’t be glass. Glass can be made highly flexible: link says a bend radius of 15 times the diameter of the glass typically is a safe assumption. That factor 15 doesn’t directly apply to plates of glass, and still might give too high a radius, but this is a hotly researched field. For nice demos, look at ▶ this video (And of course, there’s link , invented about 2,000 years ago.
