A comedy song by Dan and Dan that summarizes the British newspaper The Daily Mail using only its headlines. It satirizes the paper's habit of claiming everything causes or cures cancer.
Used as a running joke or satirical shorthand whenever the Daily Mail is cited or criticized.

I hate to post trite things on HN but if you haven't heard of the Daily Mail there is a good (and humorous) summary of the paper made into a song using only their headlines: ▶ this video
You can pick between multiple headlines: "Hurrah for the Blackshirts", "At last a gay gene has been found so we can abort gay babies", and then there's ▶ this video
In the UK it is widely known to be utter trash. Here's a song about it written in 2010: ▶ this video Song's punchline: "It's absolutely true because I read about it in the daily mail /s"
Like what? I don't see anything that's not covered by other outlets. I do see stuff like "Can you THINK yourself thin? A hypnotist to the stars says you can - and reveals the five-step technique to try if you want to shed the 'lockdown stone'"[1] Taken from the front page right now. The article is even worse than the title suggests. Relevant: ▶ this video [1]: link
> undermined by the fact that other channels will report on this stuff, but not the BBC. If you think the willingness of a news organization to publish something depends on how newsworthy it is, I guess all I can do is respond by quoting the Daily Mail Song: Pop stars take drugs Teen boys wear hoods Sports stars have sex Bears shit in woods ( ▶ this video ) But that's still English news. I guess I can quote something else: > the more lurid, titillating, sensational, or nationalistic, the better. Even the distinguished Xinhua News Service is not immune from this sort of thing. I couldn't help but chuckle when the podcast host Scott Peters worried whether or not the American press corps' obsession with non-stories like Kim Kardashian and Bruce/Catelynn Jenner would give it [Xinhua] a strategic advantage in the contest to control global media narratives. My guess is Mr. Peters doesn't read Xinhua too often. If I had few dollars [for] every time Xinhua placed a photo collage like "Beautiful Female Soldiers From All Over the World," "Singer Valen Hsu Poses For Fashion Shots," "Sleeping Babies With Their Cutest Pets," on their front page... ( link ) Newsworthiness is something that can force news organizations to begrudgingly give up space they would rather have allocated to -- going back to the song -- their photo feature on schoolgirl skirt styles. If you're watching the news because you're hoping to learn something, you're making a blatant category error; that's not what the news i
Fox isn't the first, nor is it the only one, especially outside of the US. The UK tabloids have operated a lot like that for pretty much their entire existence, peddling misinformation and moral panics like they're going out of fashion. Hell, the Daily Mail even had a song written about it cause of that. ▶ this video It's also pretty prevalent on the radio, and has a fair few historical precedents from before journalism saw credibility as an important thing to keep in mind (yellow journalism et all).
But, but, but, the Daily Mail says Brexit is good! It's absolutely true if it's written in the Daily Mail! I'm sure you've heard this song already, but it is worth a listen again to remember how Britain got here: ▶ this video
I'm surprised by the disproportionate level of angst from the people who are upset about the use of 'they' in place of 'he'. I can see the point of eliminating both and using 'it' instead, but some of the comments on that Github issue sounded like the kind of 'political correctness gone mad!' drivel that one[1] reads in the Daily Mail[2], for goodness' sake. [1] A gender-neutral pronoun! [2] If you're fortunate enough to not know what the Daily Mail is: ▶ this video
Unfortunately the Daily Mail isnt really a news source.
