The first installment of a hobbyist's video diary documenting his build of a giant walking spider-like vehicle. The footage is casual and self-shot, following the early stages of the project.

HN commenters point to it as the start of a gripping, wonder-inducing build saga by a prolific maker of ambitious mechanical projects.

Oh man, I've been idly following Jamie for like a decade. This guy appears to have a beautiful form of mechanical engineer OCD and has somehow managed to escape society so that his spirit was never crushed, and he makes videos so that everyone can watch in wonder ;) From the beginning circa 2007: ▶ this video

Brilliant - here's Part 1 that you mentioned (he's posted 300+ videos). I'm afraid I've wrecked what's left of the work day as I follow the saga. ▶ this video

Reminds me about this dedicated builder: link He builds pretty amazing stuff like indoor trampoline [0] and a robotic spider [1]. Due to his increasing popularity and requests to learn from him, he created the adventure builders club: link Some more about him in this thread that propelled him to fame on Reddit: link [0] link [1] ▶ this video
