demo · general · 2023–2024 on HN
A short Tesla clip showing the Optimus humanoid robot sorting objects autonomously and doing yoga-style stretches. Tesla says its neural network is trained end to end, from video in to controls out.
Linked as a data point on the state of humanoid robot manipulation in 2023.

Yeah 100% the initial announcement of Optimus was waaay to early, typical Elon bullshit to generate hype. But it is a real thing they are working on, and they have come a long way (considering they came from a guy in a spandex suit...) Watch their latest update: ▶ this video
How about addressing and countering any of my specific points, ideally each one in sequence so you can't cherrypick to avoid the ones where I'm certainly correct - rather than what's essentially ad hominem as your response? link ▶ this video etc. Perhaps you're not thinking from first principles and extrapolating from there?
> Imagine a several hundred kilo machine stepping on your toes with its full weight just because it mis-estimated your movements. "Specifications. Tesla Bot is planned to measure 5 ft 8 in (173 cm) tall and weigh 125 lb (57 kg)." link I'm aware that Tesla tends to be over-optimistic in its timeline regarding AI and robotics. I do not endorse the estimates without question and yes, some other companies might have made more progress than they did. The citations were meant as examples of the development in the domain. (And Boston Dynamics doesn't seem to plan a consumer launch of a humanoid robot any time soon, so I didn't cite them.) What made me more optimistic these days are recent progress in multimodal large foundation models which allow robots to perform much better, esp on manual manipulation.
