WikiLeaks: Collateral Murder (Iraq, 2007)

news · general · 2019–2024 on HN
The WikiLeaks release of 2007 Apache helicopter gunsight footage from Baghdad, in which a crew kills several people including two Reuters journalists. A van arriving to help the wounded is also fired on.
HN cites it in Assange, Manning and press-freedom threads as evidence of alleged US war crimes, not as something to recommend.

Where is the stats for 2023? Weed offenses do not not precedent over unlawful spying, espionage and the countless more lives it would save for their actions. Unfortunately those people are overseas and you seem dismissive of the American evils such as collateral murder. ▶ this video
War is nasty, it brings out the worst in people. Look at this, listen to their laughter while conducting their "work": ▶ this video (2007) "The video shows Reuters journalist Namir Noor-Eldeen, driver Saeed Chmagh, and several others as the Apache shoots and kills them in a public square in Eastern Baghdad after they are apparently assumed to be insurgents. After the initial shooting, an unarmed group of adults and children in a minivan arrives on the scene and attempts to transport the wounded. They are fired upon as well. The official statement on this incident initially listed all adults as insurgents and claimed the US military did not know how the deaths ocurred." (We may not have such detailed coverage for Gaza that we have for Baghdad, which is of course also caused by the lack of journalists, since who is dead can no longer report.)
> "Assange uncovered... What?" According to The New York Times, the Guardian, Le Monde, El Pais and DER SPIEGEL, Assange exposed the corruption of the US State Department. This is apart from his exposing the war crimes committed by the US military in Iraq [1]. "Cable gate”, a set of 251,000 confidential cables from the US State Department disclosed corruption, diplomatic scandals and spy affairs on an international scale." [0] [0] link [1] ▶ this video
I could be wrong, but I don't think exposing US war-crimes is an offence in the UK (hence the extradition): ▶ this video
▶ this video A video some claim was leaked by Chelsea Manning (to Wikileaks) showing what I believe to be war crimes by US military.
