A lecture by Swami Sarvapriyananda at IIT Kanpur on the Mandukya Upanishad and the question 'Who am I?'. It explains the four states of consciousness in Advaita Vedanta.

Recommended in threads about consciousness and reality as a clear exposition of the Vedantic view of waking, dreaming and deep sleep.

I found asian philosophies very interesting in this regard. There is an interesting Hindu philosophy about 4 states - awake, sleep, dream and turiya. In below video, lecturer explained them very beautifully. ▶ this video Also you might enjoy Gödel, Escher, Bach: an Eternal Golden Braid where author tried to explain self-referential systems. I'm not sure if it is a "proof" of any sort, but I find the ideas in the माण्डूक्य उपनिषद् (Mandukya Upanishad link ) to be a very interesting point of view. This short text discusses the theory of four states of consciousness: Waking \ Dreaming > Turiya ≝ pure consciousness illuminating these Deep dreamless sleep / These two lectures were very good: - ▶ this video - link And you can read the original text here: link

The entropic brain hypothesis reminds me of the Mandukya Upanishad. I or Ego is neither the waking state, neither the sleep state and nor the dream state, but the one from all these states emanate from. ▶ this video
