Strong Towns explains the Growth Ponzi Scheme, in which post-war suburban growth takes on infrastructure costs that new development must keep funding. It describes why municipal finances become insolvent.
Recommended in urban planning threads as a clear account of suburban municipal finance.

Everyone that wants to know more about this owes it to themselves to watch this strong towns video It's a grim situation that doesn't even require decline, just the end of growth: ▶ this video
The reason these data centers are getting built in place people don’t want them is because the towns are broke. The city councils know it, but the residents don’t. The entire point of the last 10 years of Strong Towns was talking about municipal finance, infrastructure costs, and the insolvency of the American suburban town. ▶ this video
I don't even know where to begin here. Of course we have the land to spread people out, but it's insanely expensive on everyone (especially those who are spread out) over time to sustain it. [1] If you don't have time to read - here's a video I could quickly find about the same topic from the same source - ▶ this video You have a lot of straw man arguments that but the one that I'll focus on the most is "Our leaders just FORCE us to flock to cities cpz it's cheaper on infrastructure" - prove it. 1. link
