A BBC Earth clip from The Hunt showing an octopus species from northern Australia that leaves the water at low tide to hunt crabs on land.

HN cites it as proof that some octopuses really do crawl out of the water to hunt.

this is something a certain species in Australia does, as covered in the bbc's the hunt . ▶ this video it's fascinating. they also filmed this in blue planet ii. link that clip unfortunately cuts off the first part where the shark caught the octopus, but the octopus put its arms in the sharks gills so it couldn't breathe and got away.

There is a species of octopus that does crawl out of the water to hunt (Australian, of course), but they don’t climb trees. ▶ this video

>Octopuses are very much a water-only type of organism. They're not though. Octopi generally don't like being out of water, but they're capable of traveling on land short distances and in fact the Abdopus Aculeatus octopus regularly goes on land by choice in order to hunt crabs in different tidepools. Sir David Attenborough discusses the octopus here, which this octopus was one of the animals featured in The Hunt documentary: ▶ this video
