But the opposite is assuming that Apple has a "responsibility" towards its existing users and has to acknowledge their expectations from them. A sentiment which famously led Steve Jobs to respond that he doesn't understand this, because "people pay us to make that decision for them" and "If people like our products they will buy them; if they don't, they won't" [0] So according to Steve Jobs himself, the only Apple-acknowledged way to disagree with Apple is to NOT buy their products, and by extend into the services-world of today it means STOP USING their products. Now Steve Jobs doesn't officially run this company anymore, but I don't see any indication that this philosophy has changed in any way. [0]: ▶ this video

Sorry, I had to dig. The particular conversation is from this video: ▶ this video Around the 30:15 mark. Apologies for my incorrect quoting, I was paraphrasing from memory.

I have to say he was spot on about user privacy 10 years ago and it shows in the platforms today. Starts at around 1:10. > We do a lot of things like that to ensure that people understand what these apps are doing > Privacy means people know what they are signing up for in plain English and repeatedly. >Is he really whining about something being closed and proprietary? Can't fucking believe it. "whining?" Steve Jobs didn't whine ...He built the greatest products in our digital era. He answered Mossberg and Swisher here at 2:00 on why he wrote Thoughts on Flash. ▶ this video ">Mossberg: you published thoughts on flash, is it fair to be abrupt? Steve: Apple is a company that doesn’t have the most resources of everybody in the world and the way we’ve succeeded is by choosing what horses to ride carefully technically. We try to look for these technical vectors that have a future and that are headed up and you technology..different pieces of technology go in cycles. They have their Springs and summers and autumns and then they you know go to the graveyard of technology. So we try to pick things that are in there Springs and if you choose wisely you can save yourself an enormous amount of work versus trying to do everything and you can really put energy into making those new emerging technologies be great on your platform rather than just okay because you’re spreading yourself too thin. So we have a history of doing that that. As an example, we went from the 5 inch floppy disk the 3.5 inch floppy disk with the Mac. >Mossberg: before other people right? Steve: We were the first to do that we made the 3.5 floppy disk this popular, Sony invented it and we put it in the first products, and there some good reasons we did that, we got rid of the floppy disk altogether in 1998, with the firs

> From now on, I have no goals. Nothing. I don't care about anything. I don't care about followers. I don't care about revenue. I don't care about anything. I just want to enjoy my every day life. Enjoy the process. Nothing brings joy to entrepreneurs more than the “process of building” and crafting products. Your paragraph reminded me of Steve Jobs reply to Kara Swisher when she asked for his thoughts on surpassing Microsoft in market valuation. He said: “It doesn’t matter. It’s not what’s important. It’s not what makes you come in the morning. Not why any of our customers buy our products. It’s good to keep that in mind and remember what we are doing and why” 01:02 ▶ this video
