A Technology Connections update video in which Alec Watson tests an Onyx Boox Max e-ink Android tablet used as an external display and shares channel news. It describes his experience with large-format e-ink.
HN recommends it as a thorough real-world account of using an e-ink tablet as a computer monitor.

Technology Connections (amazing Youtube channel btw!) has a few videos on using an Onyx Boox Max as a 2nd monitor: ▶ this video (Intro) link (2nd channel longer look, mini review) link (6 months later, tips / tweaks / long term review)
About a year ago Technology Connections on youtube tried to use an eink display and thoroughly described his experiences. * E-Ink on Android, and other new things! ▶ this video * E-Ink for Productivity: An Introduction link
If you two are serious about this, you'll defintely want to check out Technology Connections' series on e-ink: (quick intro): ▶ this video (starting the breakdown): link He talks about that exact concept and moves on to do real-world testing and setup of a very specific tablet usable as an external display. It's exactly as you say: Hacky and unpolished. But I found it extremely informative.
