Scumbag ASUS: Overvolting CPUs & Screwing the Customer
Gamers NexusCited 3× on HN, 2023–2025
commentary · general · 2023–2025 on HN
Gamers Nexus criticizes ASUS over its handling of exploding Ryzen CPUs, overvolting BIOS settings and warranty and support behavior. It re-benchmarks the chips at defaults and argues ASUS eroded customer trust.
HN links it as the reference for ASUS's poor treatment of customers, usually with an obligatory tone in ASUS threads.

Obligatory "Scumbag Asus" video link: Invidious ▶ this video YouTube ▶ this video "ASUS emailed us last week (...) and asked if they could fly out to our office this week to meet with us about the issues and speak "openly." We told them we'd be down for it but that we'd have to record the conversation. They did say they wanted to speak openly, after all. They haven't replied to us for 5 days. So... ASUS had a chance to correct this. We were holding the video to afford that opportunity. But as soon as we said "sure, but we're filming it because we want a record of what's promised," we get silence." Edit: formatting
Asus has been fucking over Customers in their RMA for years (Personally had it happen to me like 10 years ago). Steve had them on their Radar a year ago: link link ▶ this video Then waited a year to see if they have changed and low and behold still scummy af: They scammed Gamers Nexus when they did an undercover Repair: link Knowing Asus is run by headless chickens, the inevitable bullshit response comes out: link and it's victim blaming as you'd expect. Steve than revealed that Asus is already on the FTCs Radar and talked to a few lawyers on camera explaining just how fucking illegal Asus tactics are: link And finally, with this Video, he straight up bullied them into giving him an interview with executives to make them finally fix their shit
Asus is currently in a bad spot, as they released a BIOS update as Beta, which should address an issue where their boards would cause a CPU to explode. They did, however, leave the usual "this is beta, install on your own risk, this will void your warranty" disclaimer on, which currently backfires, as it seems as if Asus does not want to take responsibility. It is unknown if the statement was intentional , or just the usual disclaimer. Of course, that PR statement doesn’t help. Source: ▶ this video (There are more sources to it) //Edit: Another well-known channel stated that they used Asus for a long time, and noticed a decline in quality of the samples provided (as far as receiving boards that have been RMA'ed before), and also noticed that the RMA experience for average Jane and Joe has become worse. Asus also failed to negotiate further sponsoring the channel by simply not getting back to requests. As such, the channel completely canceled all business relations to Asus. Source: link
