President Bush -- Fool me Once
WisaamCited 4× on HN, 2008–2015
comedy · general · 2008–2015 on HN
A short clip of President George W. Bush stumbling through the saying 'fool me once, shame on you; fool me twice, shame on me'.
Used almost entirely as a joke or sarcastic aside about trusting politicians who have lied before.

Googled for it an found this gem of a video, I needed a good laugh: ▶ this video I mean, almost makes me nostalgic for those... oh never mind, no it doesn't.
I disagree completely, what you're saying is that there is no room for forgiveness. Screw up once and that's the only shot you've got? I sincerely don't believe in that, and would encourage more of the world to forgive-- more. No changing the past, only the future... I publically _hate_ on a lot of companies, at the semblance of a fuck up, but if they fix their shit-- I'm not going to continue hating. Yeah he/they screwed up massively, like a lot of companies do, but I'm willing to forgive them should they actually change. I'm not going to post the full email here as I don't think it's appropriate, but I've gotten past it as the reply is sincere and addresses my concerns. ... that's not say we shouldn't tease 'em a bit down the road about it ;-) "remember that time your ass and your brain were the same thing?!" haha. ... Hopefully, the HN humor police don't come down on me... And on that note, I'd like to post this video, of a man not so great with words-- except this one time where he's perfect: ▶ this video So... maybe they'll fool me once, if they've outright lied to me, but they ain't gonna fool me again ;-)
There are still US troops in Iraq. link There are also around 5000 contractors in Iraq. link It's not cynicism when you refuse to believe the people who have lied to you in the past. As "Dubya" once said... "...fool me once... Ah, er... Ya see, ya can't get fooled again..." (or something like that) ▶ this video
Bush writes a lot of his own material as well. The following excerpts show Bush speaking in his own authorial voice. Commanding. Magisterial. Lincolnesque. ▶ this video
